A quick walk through sound!
I created this piece by going through ever floor of Ovalwood and recording the sounds that I found interesting. After recording over 40 sounds, I ended up choosing about 6 different sounds. I really enjoyed the sounds of traveling as well as the piano playing. I manipulated the sounds to grow louder and softer as we moved towards and away from each. I also took someone who was walking incredibly fast in heels and slowed down the pace to give the constant footsteps used as the base line.
I wanted to make the listeners feel as if they were traveling around a location and just happened upon someone playing the piano which is a regular occurrence in the theatre. I feel as though it gives the feeling of rushing until we reach the piano which slows down the pace until it begins to fade and we begin to rush again. I made the footsteps be a constant beat underneath everything which certain sounds faded in and out to give the illusion of movement.
I like the simplicity of this- footsteps and piano music...where did you find a piano playing? It's as if there's a room in this building I still have yet to discover...

DeleteI enjoy how you used footsteps to lead us through the piece and give us a sense of direction and space...I found myself imagining the protagonist's environment...At some point I thought he/she was late to a piano concert until he/she passed by the piano and walked away....
ReplyDeleteI liked how it sounded like the person was walking and then got into an elevator and then ended up listening to someone playing the piano. To me it sounded like they were in a hurry and then slowed down to listen to the piano nd then hurried up once again.
